School Support

As a foundation, we strongly believe in the fact that education is vital when it comes to promoting sustainable development in our communities. Although there has been an increase in the percentage of children attending school in recent years there are still many barriers to education, especially in rural areas such as those surrounding Bwindi National Park.

The Bwindi Conservation for Generations Foundation works closely with a number of communities and is able to see when there is a child in particular need of assistance. There are currently 38 children that are being sponsored through the kindness of individuals around the world, although we would like to see this number increase to approximately 50 by February 2024 which is the start of the academic year in Uganda.

The amount to sponsor a child for a year is approximately $120, including enough to help towards school supplies such as books. This amount can vary slightly however, with the more senior years usually costing slightly more.

In some extenuating circumstances such as a child being an orphan or not being able to be cared for fully at home, the decision is made that they would be better cared for in a boarding school. This choice isn’t taken lightly but there is at least a guarantee of three meals a day and a roof over their heads, in this case the fees are approximately $200.
